A BRADFORD man has avoided jail after stealing toiletries from a district chemist.

Darren Smith, 46, of Luke Road, appeared in court to face two charges.

In the first offence, theft from a shop, he was handed an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for stealing 10 deodorants and five bottles of shampoo worth £42.20 from Boots in Shipley on June 29, 2022.

He was also given a drug rehabilitation requirement and must have treatment for six months.

Smith was given another eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for a charge of criminal damage to property.

He damaged the windscreen of a vehicle on Adelaide Street, off Manchester Road, Bradford, on September 25, 2022. Smith was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge for this offence.

A collection order was made by the court at Smith’s sentencing hearing for the two charges.

Smith pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on December 14.
