RESIDENTS have spoken of their shock following a horror crash that tragically killed a young mum.

Scores of tributes have been paid to Amber Deakin, 18, by family and friends.

Her mum, Hayley Norton, 41, of Windhill in Shipley, said: “She was larger than life, a great daughter and a really good mum - even though she was young, she was doing amazing.”

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.50pm last night (Tuesday, January 3) where a Vauxhall Vectra had overturned on Baildon Road, near Pasture Road.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 26-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with the incident.

A shocked resident said: “It’s tragic what happened, last night.

“We were woken up at around midnight to the sound of a bang, came running out, and saw what happened.

“We were out throwing water on the car because we thought it was going to go up in flames.

“It’s horrendous, just horrendous. We were out till two, three in the morning, watching what was happening.”

The resident, whose garden the car crashed into, said: “It’s lucky they didn’t end up in our kitchen.

“We were woken up by the bang, we were shocked. Came out and heard loads of shouting of 'Amber, Amber'. It was really sad seeing it happen.”

Neighbours were woken by the sounds of sirens and a helicopter directly overhead.

“I heard the bang, I heard the helicopters but, I couldn’t see anything from my windows," said one.

“I’ve only now come out and seen the cordon.

“It’s really shocking. I don’t know how they’ve managed to do that.”

Many roads have been closed throughout the day to allow investigation work to be carried out at the scene.

The cordon stretched from Otley Road to Station Road.

Vehicles were unable to pass through side streets and many residents living on Baildon Road were not been allowed to move their vehicles.
