MORE than £56,000 was raised from hiring out Bradford Council’s headquarters for filming TV and movies over the last five years, it can be revealed.
City Hall has been used as a location for filming a host of TV shows including Peaky Blinders and films such as The Duke, starring Dame Helen Mirren, between 2018 and the end of 2022.
Now the amount of money raised by hiring out the building has been published in a Freedom of Information Request (FOI) submitted to the local authority.
A total of £56,585 was raised from 2018 to October 2022.
This included £21,000 raised in 2018, followed by £5,000 in 2019 and £7,000 in 2020. There was no money raised for filming in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But filming picked up at City Hall in 2022 with £23,585 raised last year up until last October.
One of the productions which used City Hall for filming in 2022 was the new medical thriller 'Malpractice.'
The ITV drama, starring Niamh Algar, tells the story of a damaged doctor caught up in a dangerous conspiracy.
The council also revealed in the FOI that the location income from filming in City Hall is split on a ‘50/50 basis’ by Bradford City of Film and Bradford Council.
A council spokesman said: “The use of City Hall and other locations for high-quality TV and films, brings money in to the Bradford district.
“Often local film crews are used and crew members stay at local businesses which brings money in to the local economy.
“There are also benefits from ‘screen tourism’ when people come to visit the locations after they’ve seen them on screen.”
Other shows filmed at City Hall during this five-year period include BBC’s Peaky Blinders.
Scenes for series five in December 2019 saw the main entrance to City Hall transformed into a hotel foyer. In the Lord Mayor's Office, cast members including Cillian Murphy - who plays notorious gang leader Tommy Shelby - spent the day filming.
Meanwhile, filming for BBC Agatha Christie drama The ABC Murders, starring John Malkovich, saw a council meeting moved in July 2018.
City Hall has also been used as a backdrop for film productions over the last five years.
The Duke, starring Dame Helen and Mr Broadbent, used the site as one of its locations in January 2020. It follows the first (and only) theft in London’s National Gallery’s history.
