THE Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has issued a statement following a serious crash.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Baildon Road, Baildon, close to its junction with Pasture Road, at around 11.50pm.
An IOPC spokesperson said today: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious collision in the Bradford area last night (Tuesday 3 January) when a vehicle overturned in Baildon Road shortly before 11.50pm.
"We have been advised by West Yorkshire Police that shortly before the collision a pursuit was authorised after a car failed to stop for police.
"We understand that a number of people were taken to hospital after the incident.
"We sent investigators to the scene and to the police post-incident procedures to begin gathering evidence.
"An independent investigation was declared by us at around 1.30am today.
"Our investigation is in its very early stages and no further detail is available at this time.”
Statement from West Yorkshire Police
A spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing following a serious collision in the Bradford area.
"The incident took place at about 11.47pm on Baildon Road near Pasture Road on Tuesday after a silver car overturned.
"A number of persons have been taken to hospital following the collision and a male from the car was arrested on suspicion of driving and drug driving offences.
"Emergency services remain on scene with road closures in place as recovery and investigation work takes place. Closures are expected to be in place for a number of hours.
"The vehicle involved was being pursued by police at the time of the collision and a referral has been made to the IOPC."
