A BRADFORD man must pay more than £400 after dodging a train fare.

Gael Sita’s case was heard before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

He faced one charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.

According to court documents, the offence happened on July 13, 2022.

They state: “The defendant made a rail journey from New Pudsey to Bradford Interchange.

“Upon arrival at Bradford Interchange he advised he did not have a rail ticket for the journey he had made from New Pudsey.

“His card was declined twice on board the train, once at the barriers and also in the ticket office.

“He had no other means of payment. His details were obtained and he was advised the facts would be reported.

“Following the incident, a letter was sent to the defendant requesting the fare only.

“As there was no response a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent, this remains unpaid.”

The case was proved in Sita’s absence on December 16 last year.

Sita, 20, of Kite Mews, Lower Grange, was fined £220, ordered to pay costs of £150, a surcharge of £88 to fund victim services and compensation of £2.90.

The balance of £460.90 must be paid by January 16, the court documents state.
