BRADFORD’S oldest foodbank has thanked donators for their support after a devastating flood just a week before Christmas.
Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank saw thousands of pounds’ worth of food ruined due to a burst pipe in the loft.
It has since received more than £10,000 in cash, as well as food, from people and businesses across the district, while volunteers have also helped with the clean-up.
Graham Walker, chair of the trustees, said: “We’ve been absolutely bowled over by the support we’ve received from the people of this great city.
“Ever since the news broke about the flood we’ve been amazed and moved by everyone’s goodwill.
“It’s even more appreciated as it happened during the Christmas period and in the middle of the cost of living crisis.
“We managed to meet the demand for emergency food over the festive period. We haven’t taken in quite enough to cover the cost of repairs, but it goes an awful long way towards it and means we can keep doing what we do: providing food to those most in need in Bradford.
“Bradford really is a special place.”
The food bank continues to welcome any donations. Its website is www.bradfordfoodbank.com.
