A BRADFORD man enjoyed his return as one of the experts for the bigger, second series of a TV show.

Saf Fakir, a bespoke furniture maker from Thornbury, is one of eight experts on The Woodland Workshop, a 10-part series on Quest, which starts today (Tuesday, January 3).

The first series, then known as Kings of the Wood, was screened last year and ran for an initial eight shows.

The programme follows Mr Fakir and other members of a group of highly-skilled woodworkers, carpenters, metalworkers who have joined forces to create unique and beautiful items of furniture for worthy recipients.

In each episode members of the public are welcomed into the woodland workshop, where they tell the story of a friend, neighbour or relative who they feel is deserving of a gift, each expertly hand-crafted out of wood.

The experts get to work, showcasing all the skills of their craft, as they bring their stunning creations to life.

A 30-second trailer for the new series has been released on social media ahead of the broadcast of the first show.

It marks another television appearance for Mr Fakir after he was a mentor on BBC Two's Jay's Yorkshire Workshop, presented by The Repair Shop's Jay Blades and filmed in Little Germany in 2021.

Mr Fakir said: “This year I tried to go bigger with my stuff. I got to play around with some big stuff.

“I absolutely loved it. It’s so good and is something different.

“It’s just mind-blowing some of the stuff that the other experts come up with.

“I made lots of stuff for them and they made lots of things for me. There was some really, really nice stuff made in this series. It was interesting for me to learn new techniques. We were all learning from each other.

“I hope the show highlights some of the skills involved in the things we do.

“We heard some amazing, heart-wrenching stories from people. We heard some lovely stories. There was more of a diverse mix of people on the show this year.

“I had a laugh doing it but it was smack bang in the middle of the heatwave last summer.

“It’s still weird for me when I get recognised by people.”

The Woodland Workshop will be shown every Tuesday at 9pm on Quest and will be available to stream on discovery+. Each episode will then be repeated on Quest every Saturday at 9pm and Sundays at 9am.
