TRAFFIC queued for four miles after a multi-vehicle crash on a major road.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway of the A1, between junction 40 (A1M) and junction 39 (Wentbridge), just to the east of Leeds.

National Highways: Yorkshire posted on Twitter about the crash at 11.17am.

One lane of the dual carriageway had to be closed while the collision was dealt with.

This led to around four miles of congestion to build.

Highways Officers have advised the situation was adding an extra 20 to 25 minutes onto normal journey times.

But at 11.21am, National Highways: Yorkshire shared the news all lanes were now open.

Delays were expected to ease but there was still three-and-a-half miles of congestion at that point, adding an extra 20 minutes onto journey times.
