A BRADFORD district pub closed with immediate effect after it became ‘financially unviable’ to remain open due to low trade.
Bosses at The Glen, based in Gilstead Lane, Bingley, announced earlier this month that it was due to close for good in January 2023.
But following what has been described as ‘exceptionally low trade during December’ with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the current tenants have called time earlier than its original planned date of January 2.
A post on The Glen’s Facebook page said today (December 28): “It is with deepest sadness that due to exceptionally low trade during December (with the exception of the Christmas quiz, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), it has become financially unviable to keep the doors open at the Glen - 2 months before the end of our lease.
“It has been an emotional 10 years, with plenty of operational challenges, which has influenced our decision to not extend the lease.
“We hope Star Pubs & Bars find a suitable new tenant soon.”
The Glen added in replies to comments on its Facebook post that it is closed with ‘immediate effect’.
One person who replied to the announcement wrote: “Very sad to hear this.”
