West Yorkshire Police has paid tribute to a dedicated officer who collapsed after becoming unwell on duty.

It is the 10th anniversary of well-respected police constable Tony Sweeney QPM’s death aged 58.

The police officer, who served the Lincoln Green area of Leeds, collapsed and died whilst returning home on December 27, 2012.

He was a recipient of the Queen’s Police Medal for services to the community.

In a moving tweet, West Yorkshire Police said: “Today, we remember PC Tony Sweeney, who sadly lost his life on this day in 2012. #WeWillRemember.”

West Yorkshire Police Federation said: “Remembering PC Tony Sweeney QPM, of West Yorkshire Police who died on duty on this day in 2012

“Tony collapsed and died while returning home after becoming unwell on duty. He was 58.

“We will remember him.”
