TWO boys have been arrested following an early-hours police chase on the M62.
West Yorkshire Police’s roads policing unit spotted a vehicle driving at excessive speeds on the motorway between Junction 31 and 30.
The arrests were made at Junction 24, West Yorkshire Police said.
The boys, aged 15 and 18, remain in police custody.
The vehicle had been reported stolen overnight from the Humberside area.
Police statement
In the latest statement, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Officers from the West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit made two arrests at Junction 24 following the pursuit of a vehicle on the westbound M62.
"An 18-year-old male and a 15-year-old male were taken into custody after the vehicle was spotted traveling at excessive speeds on the motorway between Junction 31 and Junction 30. The vehicle was reported stolen overnight from the Humberside area."
West Yorkshire Police ammended a previous statement which suggested the boys were aged 14 and 16.
The exit ramp on the M62 Westbound at J24 A629 (Ainley Top) was blocked off early on Thursday morning.
The exit has since reopened. The incident was earlier reported as a crash.
Speaking earlier on Thursday, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Emergency services are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision on the slip road at Ainley Top, Junction 24, M62 Westbound.
"Motorists travelling westbound will need to exit at Junction 25 Brighouse as the slip road at Junction 24 is currently closed."
