A Bradford cat rescue has issued a warning to people looking after outdoor cats and strays this winter.
The recent cold snap has sparked concern about well-intentioned people leaving blankets, towels, beds and hay as shelter for cats living outside.
Bradford Cat Watch Rescue and Sanctuary said these materials can absorb moisture from the air and freeze solid.
It means cats could fall asleep and freeze to death.
The rescue’s founder Katie Lloyd has urged people to use straw inside outdoor shelters for cats during the colder months.
The dry leftover stalks from straw helps repel moisture in the air. People should loosely pack straw in the cat’s shelter.
If you're worried about a stray cat's health, you can dial the RSPCA’s emergency helpline via 0300 1234 999.
