THE annual Community Stars Awards have honoured the city’s local heroes who often go unrecognised.
Finalists from across the district gathered for a special ceremony presented by Charles Dacres, Mahmood Mohammed and Nigel Guy at the Bradford Hotel.
Guests enjoyed a live performance by African drummers, Sankofa Sistahs Group, before a night of civic pride and joy unfolded.
Before the nine award-winners were revealed, there was a surprise in store for one of Bradford’s most inspirational community leaders.
Joseph Flerin received a standing ovation as he took to the stage to receive his Lifetime Achievement Award.
His emotional story sparked tears from some members of the audience.
Awards were presented by a number of esteemed guests including the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Martin Love, Bradford Council chief executive Kersten England, and Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe.
The Council also paid tribute to Ian Day, assistant director for neighbourhood and customer services at Bradford Council, who is leaving his role after 40 years.
