A large school in Bradford was forced to close for a second day amid continued repairs on a burst water pipe.
Bradford Forster Academy said its school building had faced “significant flooding” on Friday.
Yorkshire Water has been working to fix the problem and reconnect the school’s water supply since last week.
In a notice on Bradford Council’s emergency school closure list, the academy said: “Due to misinformation from Yorkshire Water, unfortunately the Academy has to remain closed to all students today (Monday 12 December). Work will be put on Teams for all year groups. Year 11 Mock Exams will be rescheduled. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
The school said it hopes to reopen to pupils “as soon as it is safe to do so”.
In a further statement released on Monday afternoon, a spokesperson for Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust (BDAT) apologised for the closure’s impact on parents and students.
A spokesperson for BDAT said: “On Friday, school was forced to close due to a water pipe bursting near the school reception leading to significant flooding which meant the school needed to be closed for all but those Year 11s sitting mock exams.
“Unfortunately, although our water provider has been working to fix the issue since Friday morning, they have still not managed to fix the problem or reconnect our water supply, so the school has to remain closed until the situation is resolved.
“We hope to re-open school as soon as it is safe to do so and the issue is resolved. We apologise to our parents and students for any inconvenience caused and we will continue to provide home learning activities for the duration of the closure.”
Responding to the school’s claim of misinformation, a spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: “We apologise for the delays in repairing a leak at Bradford Forster Academy and the inconvenience this has caused. Our teams will be on site today to complete the repair.”
