A WOMAN and two children escaped from a home that was affected by a chimney fire which had spread.

The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 12.30am today (Sunday) to a fire at a home on Bank Top, Southowram, Halifax.

A spokesperson for the fire said: "We received a call from the occupier reporting her lounge and cellar were full of smoke.

"She confirmed that she had been alerted to the smoke by her carbon monoxide detector.

"One female occupant and two children safely left the property until arrival of the fire service.

On arrival, crews found the building smoke logged on the ground floor and basement.

"The incident proved to be a chimney fire which had spread to the cavity.

"Cutting away was carried out and crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.

"The Red Cross Fire Emergency Support Service was requested and attended."

Halifax, Illingworth and Rastrick fire stations also attended the blaze.
