A sensational West End production, Whitney Queen of the Night combines three decades of straight up hits into a two hour concert and performs to hundreds of audiences every year. Moving through the eras, we experience Whitney’s rise to fame and her journey of musical discovery through R’n’B dance numbers, pop singles and ballads. No wonder the show was an instant success! In fact, her biggest hit - the 1992 rendition of Dolly Parton’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ - was a heartstring-pulling ballad. This one-of-a-kind concert rekindles a passion for Whitney’s music in the old and young and keeps them enthralled by the beauty and power of no other than Adenike Adewale.
The accomplished singer-songwriter performs with a voice of such power it can knock down walls, never mind shattering glasses. Adenike stole the show with her masterful singing and effortlessly performed some of the most iconic songs in the history of pop. The engaging production feels special and unique, as if new interpretative versions of the classics were performed to keep the audience on their toes. The 2-hour show starts with a quick icebreaker; a fun interactive way to feel relaxed and in the zone to party whilst preparing everyone for the collective dance at the end. Adenike reached into all areas of the audience to get everyone involved in the action and receive constant contact with the artists.
The pauses between songs were perfectly filled – the cast talked for exactly the right amount of time to includes facts, personality and a rest from the music. In fact, the whole cast had their own distinctive individuality on stage and presented themselves as if they were time travelling through Whitney’s life. The crew, backup dancers and musicians all performed to the highest level and enthralled the audience throughout.
