THE Council has been asked about the level of interest from traders in the new Darley Street Market.

The market is being built on the site of the old Marks & Spencer building.

Work began in March this year and the market is expected to open in September next year.

When it does, both Oastler Market and Kirkgate Market will shut.

The site will include a market and food hall, while an outdoor square linking Darley Street and Piccadilly will be used for concerts and events.

In a written question ahead of Bradford Council’s Full Council meeting on December 13, Councillor Aneela Ahmed (Lab, City), said: “Darley Street Market is making great progress and will provide a fantastic opportunity for the many entrepreneurs across Bradford and beyond.

“What interest has there been from potential traders in taking up space in the new market?”

The food hall will feature a host of dine-in and takeaway food from street and restaurant traders.

There will be 11 food kiosks in the food hall offering a selection of world foods, two bars, plus seating for 500 customers, both indoors and on the external balcony area overlooking the market square, and a large outdoor screen.
