A BRADFORD woman who battled an illness for nearly nine years has sadly died, with her final wish being granted the day before.
Jaspreet Kundi, who lived in Shipley, died on Saturday at the age of just 33.
Jaspreet had a grade four brain tumour which had left her bedbound.
She came to the UK from India in 2014 and fell ill shortly after. It was Jaspreet’s last wish to be reunited with her mother, and this dream was fulfilled before she died when her mum arrived from India to visit, her husband Manjit explained.
“Jaspreet’s mum came here on Friday. She’d been waiting for her, that was her last wish,” the 37-year-old said.
Manjit, who was Jaspreet’s full-time carer, first spoke to the Telegraph & Argus about his family’s situation less than a month ago.
He said Jaspreet had not had a day outside of her home or the hospital since she had been in the UK, and that her condition had worsened in June, when doctors told him that there was nothing more they could do.
Speaking today, Manjit said: “We’re all heartbroken. She was only 33, that’s no age to go.
“She deteriorated really badly on the Friday night.
“It’s just one of those things. She battled her illness right until the end.”
In November, Manjit told the T&A that his heart breaking situation had left him feeling depressed.
He said that his and Jaspreet’s worlds had been turned “upside down” over recent years.
Jaspreet did have major surgery to remove her tumour, but it returned in 2019. Manjit added that, as time went on and amid the cost of living crisis, he was finding it hard to pay bills and put food on the table.
He set up a GoFundMe page to help make the end of Jaspreet’s life as comfortable as it possibly could be, and to help pay for her family to come and visit from India.
Manjit is being supported by his family following Jaspreet’s death.
“I would be going crazy alone in the flat, so I’m staying at my mum and dad’s – everybody’s here, family is close by,” he said.
He also took the time to express his gratitude to those who have supported Jaspreet over the years.
“I’d like to thank all the nurses and doctors who looked after her and helped her with all the medication,” he said.
“I also want to thank Total Homecare who provided care for Jaspreet over the last eight years.”
