Concerns have been raised over a shop’s bid to sell alcohol 24 hours a day.

The application, for Bargain Booze on Saltaire Road, Saltaire, will be discussed at a meeting of the Bradford Area Licensing Panel.

"The Assistant Director Waste, Fleet and Transport Services will present a report which outlines an application for variation to extend permitted hours for the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises in respect of for Bargain Booze Plus, 59-61 Saltaire Road, Shipley," says a report to the meeting.

People living in the area have objected to the plan, with concerns about the potential for noise, anti-social behaviour and litter problems raised.

The application says: “We would like to offer 24-hour opening, although service between 00:00 hours and 06:00 hours shall be through a service hatch, thus allowing no public access to the interior of the premises.”

Lodging a comment on the proposal, Councillor Kevin Warnes (Green, Shipley) said: “There are several properties close to the premises, and they will be adversely impacted if the shop is open all night for sales of alcohol (it currently closes at 10, though could presumably remain open until 12 under its existing license).

“I believe that the nearby Tesco closes at 11, and assume that all the nearby stores are shut by 12.”

One resident said there must be a balance between Saltaire’s “thriving evening economy” and it being a residential village popular with young families.

The meeting will be held at Bradford City Hall on December 15 from 10am.
