BRADFORD is one of the politest cities in the UK, a new study has claimed.
The study, by online learning platform Preply, surveyed over 1,500 people living in the UK’s 19 largest cities, and asked them how often they saw “rude behaviour” in their area.
Bradford had an ‘average rudeness score’ of 4.94, meaning it was ranked as the third-most polite city in the country.
The data also ranked Bradford as one of the most generous cities for tipping – in fifth place – with Preply claiming that, on average, Bradfordians tip £8.62.
The list of rude behaviours used to rank cities included being noisy in public, not acknowledging strangers and being rude to service staff, among others.
Despite being in the top three for being the most polite, Bradford did score highest on two rude behaviours – not slowing down when driving near pedestrians and being absorbed by a mobile phone in public.
The study ranked Sheffield as the politest city in the UK, followed by Derby. Cardiff and Nottingham completed the top five.
Preply said that Bristol was the UK’s rudest city – with an ‘average rudeness score’ of 5.84 – followed by Hull, Coventry, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Leeds was ranked as the seventh rudest in the study.
