THE Bradford branch of a leading UK union is inviting local people to come along and fill a sack with messages for the Prime Minister.

With inflation at over 11 per cent, the price of basic foodstuffs up 17 per cent, rents up 10 per cent and energy costs doubled, families in Bradford are struggling to afford Christmas.

Unite Community wants to 'Fill Sunak’s Sack' with messages from Bradford letting the Prime Minister know how people are struggling and urging him to do something more about it.

The union will be in the City Library on December 10 from 1pm till 3pm and wants to invite people to call in to put their message in a sack which Unite will then deliver to the Prime Minister before Christmas.

More than one in five households in Bradford and 40 per cent of children are living in poverty, and the union wants to send a clear message to the Prime Minister that he must act urgently to help those struggling on low pensions, wages and benefits that have failed to keep up with the rising cost of living.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to send a postcard to their MP as well as put a message in the sack to let them know how the cost-of-living crisis is affecting them and impacting their Christmas.

Unite will have a stall, along with the Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank, Acorn who campaign for renters, and Abigail who work with asylum seekers.

There will be free festive snacks and members of the public are invited to come along.
