A Bradford man who is bringing communities together through cricket has been recognised by the Yorkshire Cricket Board.
Nasar Hussain, who runs weekly cricket sessions with Dream Big Aim High at Girlington Community Centre, was celebrated at the annual Grassroots Cricket Awards.
But it’s not just about overs and wickets for Nasar, who also keeps families in need well-fed through packages and hampers.
He was awarded the Connecting Communities (Brian and Shirley Hobson Award) in a special ceremony at Headingley stadium.
Mr Hussain said: “It’s just mindblowing to be there. It was a great honour to receive this award. The main reward is when I see families and they’ve got a smile on their faces.
"It’s for everyone who’s helped me make a difference. The saying is, ‘Teamwork makes the dream work’ and I believe that’s what it is.
“It’s not just sessions for cricket, it’s also making food packages and hampers and stuff like that. Now that Christmas is coming along we will be providing food packages for families so they can have a great Christmas.
“It’s not just children from Girlington area. It’s bringing communities together. It just goes to show why Great Britain is great. People put their differences aside.”
The sessions take place every Tuesday between half five to 7pm.
