LATEST NEWS: Councillor says shooting in area is 'shocking' and 'disturbing'

PEOPLE in a house experienced a terrifying moment when they heard a "loud bang" after a gun was fired at the front door.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police are investigating a firearms discharge at a property in Pyenot Hall Lane, in Cleckheaton at around 3.30pm yesterday.

A group of males in dark clothing and balaclavas approached the house and made threats.

The occupants then heard a loud bang before the men dispersed.

Police rushed to the scene and found damage to the front door which was consistent with a firearm having been discharged.

The Telegraph & Argus visited the street today and saw what looked to be pellet damage to the door.

A police scene is still in place at the property, with officers conducting extensive investigations.

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the incident and he is in police custody.

DCI Damian Roebuck, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We are continuing our investigations into this incident today and are appealing for witnesses and information.

“All firearms crimes are treated extremely seriously in West Yorkshire Police and while no-one was injured on this occasion, any discharge of a weapon can clearly have very serious consequences."

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone that might have information that could help their investigation.
