A MEMORY garden to support people with dementia has been attacked by vandals.
Graffiti has been daubed on an information board at the site, in Church Green, Keighley.
The vandalism was this week condemned as "shameful".
People living with dementia contributed ideas for the garden, which was opened in 2018.
Keighley town mayor Councillor Luke Maunsell, who is also chair of Dementia Friendly Keighley, says: "This is shameful vandalism of a much-needed and important site. Whoever thinks such behaviour is acceptable is sorely mistaken.
"I know plans are being investigated to ensure the site's long-term future and maintenance, but clearly more will need to be done to help prevent such disgusting acts from happening again."
Resident Jo Armstrong says she always stops at the site when walking through Church Green and was deeply upset to see the damage.
"The garden reminds me of my nan who passed away with dementia – sadly she never got to visit the site," she adds.
Bradford Council said the graffiti would be reported to the police and removed "as soon as possible".
A spokesperson added: "Mindlessly damaging local spaces in this way is completely unacceptable and we do everything we can to prevent it."
