CHRIS Roberts, of Bradford & Bingley Weatherline, brings us the latest of his regular weekend weather forecasts.

General

High pressure situated to our East and Scandinavia is bringing settled and cold air across a relatively warm North Sea, resulting is a lot of cloud and mist/fog to some parts of our region.

As we move into the weekend, this cold air is set to intensify with an increase in wind speed and bring some showers of light rain with a possible wintry mix to the highest areas by Sunday

So, what does this bring for the weekend?

Saturday

A cold day with a North Easterly breeze developing, bringing an increased chance of showers, some wintry over highest ground by the evening.

During the day we should see some brightness into the afternoon, but it won't last with cloud building again and that potential for showers increasing into the evening. Temperatures from 3° to 4°C but will feel much lower in that NE breeze.

Night: Lows of 3°C with a chance of showers, but some clearer spells at times in the night which may result in a ground frost in sheltered spots by dawn.

Sunday

A cold, mainly cloudy and showery day (some maybe wintry over the Pennines) with that moderate Easterly breeze making it feel particularly cold. Some brighter spells possible but mainly overcast.

Temperatures from 3 to 4C but feeling more like -1C in that breeze.

Night: Lows of 4C, cloudy and the ever-present potential for a shower.

Further Outlook

A cold, possibly wintry week and becoming even colder from midweek as we draw our air from the Arctic as a Greenland high builds to our Northwest squeezing our airflow between the Scandinavian High to our East.

The potential for sleet and possibly snow, increases as we approach the weekend. Frosts at night are likely too.
