A MACHETE attacker who stabbed an Eid worshipper during morning prayers at a Bradford mosque has been made the subject of a Hospital Order.
A jury at Bradford Crown Court determined in October that Fezan Hussain had plunged the large knife into his victim’s abdomen as they embraced as a traditional sign of peace at the Madni Masjid Mosque on Newton Street in West Bowling on May 2.
Hussain, 27, of Radfield Road, Wyke, Bradford, was not before the court after he was ruled ‘unfit to plead’ to a charge of attempted murder but the jury found he had ‘done the act’ alleged against him.
Today, Judge Jonathan Rose made a Hospital Order for 12 weeks after hearing that a bed was available for Hussain at Newton Lodge in Wakefield.
The case will be listed again on February 22 when a report has been compiled by doc-tors who will assess Hussain’s mental health.
During the trial, the court heard that the victim, a man in his 20s, was hugging Hussain after morning prayers when he suddenly stuck the machete into him. He told how Hussain was trying to push it further into his abdomen during the attack. The blade went into his liver causing really serious internal damage.
