POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was seriously injured in an assault yesterday.

Kirklees CID are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at around 8.26pm.

A 16-year-old male was approached by suspects and assaulted while on an alleyway leading from Deighton Road to Riddings Close, Huddersfield.

The victim suffered an injury to his body and went to a nearby store on Sheepridge Road for help.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital where his condition is today described as stable.

Reassurance patrols are ongoing in the area today by the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Detective Chief Inspector Marie Bulmer, of Kirklees CID, said: “This has clearly been a very serious incident. We are carrying out a wide range of enquiries and I want to reassure residents that we are determined to locate and bring to justice those responsible for it.

“Tackling knife crime is our number one priority in Kirklees and all necessary resources are being employed to investigate this offence.
