Classic thigh-slapping fun comes to a Keighley museum with a new display of costumes from pantomimes past.
The newest display at Cliffe Castle museum this Panto Season features a selection of Principal Girl and Principal Boy costumes from pantomimes put on by the local Keighley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (now the Keighley Musical Theatre Company).
Meet Goody the Principal Girl from the pantomime Goody Two Shoes, Prince Charming from Cinderella and Robin Hood from Babes In The Wood, as well as others famous characters who will be stepping out of the storybooks in to display cases.
Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “Pantomimes are a great tradition of this time of year and we’re delighted to be able to bring these traditional fairy-stories to life with this display at Cliffe Castle Museum.”
Keighley Musical Theatre stalwart Barbara Boothroyd, who organised the loan of the costumes to the museum, said: “So much work goes in to putting on the shows and creating the costumes, this is a great opportunity to see these fabulous creations up close and really get to see the details.”
