A MOBILE app helped to save a woman’s life when she was trampled by cows in North Yorkshire earlier this year.

Stella Collins spoke of how she was “catapulted” into the air after a cow charged at her multiple times while she was walking in Ribblesdale.

The emergency services were called and an air ambulance was dispatched to save Stella.

She was able to report the incident by describing her exact location using what3words to the call handler.

The app gives every three-metre square in the world a name by using unique three-word combinations.

Stella was transported to nearby Preston Hospital and the rescue was filmed as part of the latest series of Helicopter ER. 

Stella said: "I never realised cows could be so aggressive. I know they had their calves but we were nowhere near them, we weren't pestering them in any shape or form.

“Always have a phone with you and have the what3words app. If you do need the emergency services, that can pinpoint exactly where you are.”
