A SELECTION of items from Bradford’s sporting past, including a match played in aid of the city’s fire disaster fund featuring England World Cup winners, is set to go under the hammer in an online auction.
Postal orders, booklets and matchday programmes from football, cricket and motorsport are up for grabs on the Midland Sports Auctions website.
A programme from Bradford (Park Avenue’s) Division Two 2-2 draw with Leicester City on August 24, 1949, is up for sale. The lot number is 437 and has an auctioneer’s estimate of between £10 and £15.
Some of England’s 1966 World Cup heroes feature in two items up for grabs at the online auction, one with a Bradford link.
The programme from a 1966 England World Cup charity match, which was played between the stars of the England and Germany teams from the day at Wembley in aid of the 1985 Bradford Fire Disaster Fund, is also available.
The football match, which was played on July 28, 1985 at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium, featured stars of the England team who were victorious over West Germany.
The match’s programme includes a cover photograph of Bobby Moore, Sir Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters celebrating pitchside after winning the trophy. All three players have signed the auction lot too.
This item, lot number 2454, has an auctioneer’s estimate of £80 to £120.
More signed England 1966 World Cup goods are up for grabs. A World Cup postal cover, signed by all of the squad and manager Sir Alf Ramsey, is also available. It is lot number 289 with an auctioneer’s estimate of £200 to £400.
Some of Bradford’s cricket history is also available at the online auction.
A centenary of Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s games played at Bradford (Park Avenue) is celebrated in a booklet.
This features a black and white aerial photograph of the Avenue cricket ground. It is lot number 606 and has an auctioneer’s estimate of £3 to £4.
The Northern Cricket Society’s booklet – 1964 is also one of the online auction’s lots. The cover of the booklet features 'Yorkshire’s Centenary Year’ written in the middle of the page and has an inset photograph of Yorkshire and England star Brian Close.
This booklet is lot number 1776 and has an auctioneer’s estimate of £8 to £10.
Meanwhile, motorsport fans are catered for with a programme from a motorcycle grass track event held at Esholt Park, Apperley Bridge, Bradford, on Easter Monday 1963.
