SISTERS Gabby and Jorgia Murphy have been entertaining Christmas shoppers with their live music.
The pair won their category at the Christmas lights switch on talent showcase, co-sponsored by The Pulse and The Broadway Bradford. Gabby, 14, began singing, aged 11 and quickly came to the notice of local rockers Temporal Storm. After a year with the band, she formed a duo with guitarist Ethan Faulkner, who later joined Idle band The Flow.
Says proud dad John Murphy: “The pandemic proved a spark for Jorgia, 12, to learn to play guitar, acoustic and electric. Thanks to support from The Groove Pad, Shipley, Marshalls School of Music, Queensbury and The Music Box in Pudsey, Gabby and Jorgia have been performing as Sorelle for the past six months. The name is a tribute to family connections with Sicily and means ‘sisters’ in Italian. I suggested the Irish equivalent but ‘deirfiuracha’ is as difficult to spell as to pronounce! A compromise would have been Sisters Of Murphy...
“The girls are pupils at BBEC, which has been very supportive, with back-up bass and guitar lessons and providing a slot in the end of year musical revue and a recent two-song performance at the annual awards night at Bradford Cathedral - the biggest audience the girls have appeared before.”
