DISPLAYS of bravery and dedication to keeping people safe were among the work recognised at a police awards in Leeds on Thursday.
The Leeds District Awards saw police and members of the public commended for their efforts across a range of incidents, investigations and community initiatives.
The event was held at Leeds Civic Hall.
Leeds District Commander, Chief Superintendent Steve Dodds, was joined by members of the district’s Senior Leadership Team and VIP guests, including Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Kate Riley, High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Susan Baker, West Yorkshire Police Federation Chair, Craig Nicholls and senior representatives from Leeds City Council.
Commendations were also awarded for Police Community Support Officer of the Year, Special Constable of the Year, Team of the Year, Employee of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Chief Superintendent Steve Dodds said: “It is truly humbling to hear all these stories that so clearly illustrate the special qualities these individuals have brought to bear to make that crucial difference in very challenging situations.
“In many of these examples it has literally been the difference between life and death, but what really shines out across every one of these accounts is their genuine commitment to keeping people safe from harm.
“I became Leeds District Commander in June and in that relatively short time I have been impressed by the work that goes on in the district each and every day, despite the significant challenges around the level and complexity of the demand we face.
“It is a real privilege to have this opportunity to recognise those whose actions have stood out as being among the very best that we do to serve the communities of Leeds.”
