Bradford Council is kicking off National Tree Week with a community planting event in Wyke.
Volunteers are invited to drop in and help out between 10am and 3pm on Saturday November 26, at the new Wyke Sports Village, where a community planting day is taking place.
A mix of native trees and shrubs are being planted to create a woodland habitat around the site to attract wildlife.
The planting forms part of the council’s Tree for Every Child project, which aims to plant 55,000 trees over a four- year period – the equivalent of one tree per prima-ry school child in the district. So far over 26,000 trees have been planted since the project was launched in November 2020.
TfEC partners Trees for Cities, Bradford Environmental Education Services, For-est of Bradford (BEAT), and Yorgreen CIC will be working with the council’s Trees and Woodland Team to lead on the planting on the day.
School planting workshops are also taking place on the same site over the following week Sessions will run at 10-11am, 11.15am -12.15pm and 1-2pm. To take part in any of these sessions, booking is essential by emailing mel@treesforcities.org Fruit Works Co-operative, the council’s other partners in TfEC are currently holding orchard workshop with 20 schools who have joined the project and planting with the other TfEC partners will be taking place at 25 more schools’ grounds over the winter planting season.
