Look, Say, Sing, Play is a free campaign that provides brain-building tips and encourages interactions between babies and their parents or carers.
The games and activities are designed to fit in with everyday routine and don’t require any special toys or equipment.
The campaign encourages parents and carers to respond to a baby’s actions in the hope of reciprocation, imitating noises and actions back and forth like a game of tennis to build a bond while boosting brain development.
Helen Westerman, NSPCC Head of Local Campaigns, said: “The first few months and years of a child’s development are vital, and we hope to give parents and carers the tools they need to ensure youngsters have the best start in life.
“It is a terrific campaign and gives new parents the confidence to have fun with their babies, safe in the knowledge that every song they sing or game they play will help develop the young mind.
“You don’t need fancy or expensive new toys to take part. Every time you use silly voices, play or just sing with a baby, you’re helping their mind to grow. More than that, you’re also helping to develop a powerful bond with your baby.”
Anyone who works with children aged two or under in Bradford can find out more about Look Say Sing Play at a virtual event between 11am and 11.45pm on Friday, November 18, where NSPCC practitioners will introduce and explain the brain science behind the campaign and look at practical ideas and activities for parents and children.
The free NSPCC helpline provides adults with a place they can get advice and support, share their concerns about a child, or get general information about child protection. Adults can contact the helpline 365 days a year.
