A ROYAL gift has been presented to the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford.
A young hazel tree, which was part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, was presented to the hospice.
It was part of the giant Tree of Trees sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick, a 68 foot creation which stood outside Buckingham Palace in April and was seen by millions of people.
The hazel was one of the 350 trees which made up the sculpture, with all trees set to be replanted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
Representing His Royal Highness King Charles III, Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire Zulfi Karim, helped volunteers plant it in the hospice garden.
Sue Hogston, Head of Nursing and Quality at the Bradford hospice, said: “We’re delighted to receive the tree as a reminder of our late Queen and how inspirational she was to many across the United Kingdom.
“Our new King has been a patron of Marie Curie for many years, so we are grateful for this gift.
“Our garden is well loved by our patients and brilliantly cared for by our volunteers. As the tree grows, we hope it will become a key feature and be enjoyed by everyone who visits the hospice.”
Mr Karim said: “It’s a fitting tribute and memorial to Queen Elizabeth II, and we hope patients and their families will reflect on all she did when visiting the wonderful hospice gardens.”
