A BID to challenge the sentence of a man who reversed his Range Rover into a woman during an argument in a hotel car park has failed.

Khurram Shehzad, 37, of Halifax Road, Brighouse, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm shortly before midnight on September 11 last year.

When he was sentenced earlier in November, he avoided an immediate jail term and was sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 250 hours of unpaid work.

Under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, victims of crime, members of the public, and the Crown Prosecution Service can ask for certain Crown Court sentences to be reviewed if they believe they are too low.

A bid was made in relation to Shehzad’s sentence but was immediately knocked back as not being one of the offences covered by the scheme.

This means that Shehzad’s sentence cannot be increased under the scheme.

Bradford Crown Court heard how the incident took place outside the George Hotel in Low Moor, Bradford when Shehzad was in his vehicle and he and the woman were arguing.

Shehzad reversed while the woman was alongside the Range Rover. She fell in the road and was dragged a short distance suffering cuts, bruising and swelling to her right knee.
