A REPORT on how to tackle pavement parking in Bradford has been delayed yet again due to long promised Government guidance failing to materialise.

The issue of motorists parking their vehicles on the pavement is one that has been raised numerous times in recent years by residents and councillors.

Although it is illegal to drive on the pavement, outside of London it is not against the law to park on the pavement.

This means enforcing the issue often falls to Council Wardens, without any firm legislation behind them.

Nationally, the Government held a consultation into the issue in 2020, and was expected to announce new guidance, which could see pavement parking made illegal, this year.

Tong Street pavement parking slammed as 'lazy and dangerous'

However, members of a Bradford Council committee were this week told that this guidance has yet to emerge.

A report on pavement parking was due to be discussed by members of the Regeneration and Environment Scrutiny Committee in January.

The report had already been delayed multiple times – with Council officers saying they were waiting for the Government announcement before they could look at how it would apply to Bradford.

At the latest meeting of the Committee on Tuesday evening, members were told that the report would not be published in January, as there was still no detail on when the Government’s new pavement parking rules would be announced.
