A BOOK on the history of Bradford’s iconic Odeon building is to be officially launched at the weekend.

Mark Nicholson has spent many years combing through the archives, and interviewing people involved with the 1930s building in its different guises in order to produce the book.

It has been published by Bradford Live, which is currently turning the building into a live music venue.

The launch event will take place at Impression Gallery in Bradford city centre, from noon on Saturday, November 19.

Mark will be speaking about the background to the book as well as signing copies.

He said: “The book can be purchased via a minimum donation of £10, with all proceeds going to Bradford's Cinderella Club charity for local children. The ideal Christmas gift!!!"

Entitled, The People’s Palace: The Story of the New Vic, it includes photos supplied by former staff members of the New Victoria, Gaumont and then latterly the Odeon, as well some taken from the Telegraph & Argus’s archives.

The book itself was mainly written by 2017, but it was down to Bradford Live’s restoration of the building, and grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, that has finally enabled the 360-page book to be published.
