A PROLIFIC shop thief who was banned from entering any Lidl in Kirklees has been jailed for repeatedly flouting his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Jalali Ali, of Huddersfield town centre, was jailed for 28 weeks at Leeds Remand Court on November 10.
He was jailed after being charged with four breaches of a CBO preventing him from entering parts of the town centre.
The 55-year-old was also charged with an offence of theft from a town centre retailer.
Ali had been issued with a five-year CBO in October 2020 by Kirklees Magistrates Court, preventing him from entering a designated area of the town centre unless on certain official appointments.
He was also prevented from remaining in a number of supermarkets in Kirklees if directed to leave by staff, or enter any Lidl in Kirklees.
Sergeant Amanda Holroyd of the Kirklees Town Centre Partnership, said: “We welcome the sentence imposed on Ali which should make it crystal clear that CBO orders carry real power and those who flout them can expect to be put behind bars.
“Ali was jailed following multiple breaches of this order which was put in place to protect businesses in Huddersfield from theft.
“He will be closely monitored on his release from prison and we will not hesitate to take action if he continues to breach and offend.”
Cllr Carole Pattison, Cabinet Member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said: “I hope this news brings reassurance to businesses in our town centres that alongside West Yorkshire Police we will take action against those who commit crime.
"I’d like to thank West Yorkshire Police, and specifically the Huddersfield Town Centre Team, who work tirelessly to protect visitors and businesses in our town centre.”
