A popular Pakistani folk singer was forced to cancel his show in Bradford – just moments before going on stage.
Zeeshan Khan Rokhri chose to perform at the Life Church on Wapping Road for his debut tour, having been roped in by local businessman and philanthropist Shakeel Faraz.
Having already organised successful shows with some of the biggest musicians and artists from Pakistan, Mr Faraz hoped to increase engagement in culture and arts for South Asian communities.
But West Yorkshire Police were called to the venue on Monday night to reports of a security threat to cause damage to the church.
As a precautionary measure, the building was evacuated, and a search was carried out. Nothing was found.
Footage shows the folk star walking out of the events space alongside police officers, with members of the crowd standing bewildered in the front car park.
It followed another incident where the force dealt with criminal damage to one of the church’s function rooms.
Police have since revealed the two incidents are believed to be linked and have been recorded as hate crimes.
Inspector Paul Riley, of the Bradford East Neighbourhood Police Team, said: “We have stepped up patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community.
“We are treating these incidents as hate crimes and will look to take positive action.
