A BOTTLE of whisky signed by a former Prime Minister is one of the items up for grabs to help raise funds for a new Bradford City charity’s community cafe and hub near the club’s ground.

The Bradford City Community Foundation is staging the re-scheduled Bantams Ball on Saturday, November 19, at Valley Parade. It was originally due to take place in September but was postponed due to the national period of mourning following the Queen’s death.

The event will help fund a cafe and City Hub building which is being built in the former Bantams club shop at the ground. The cafe and hub is due to open next month.

The community cafe will become a new space to meet and eat, while funding some of the club charity’s most necessary provisions like feeding families in need and creating a safe space for women and girls in Bradford.

The cafe will also be open for supporters on City matchdays.

A online silent auction has also been set up this week to raise further funds for the community hub.

A non-footballing item up for grabs in the online auction is a bottle of ‘The Parliamentarian’ scotch whisky signed by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Other items include a signed Bradford City home shirt, signed Bradford Bulls jersey, signed Leeds United shirt and a signed picture of John Hendrie taken during his playing days for Bradford City in the 1980s.

The Bantams Ball event will take place between 7.30pm and 1am this Saturday after City’s home League 2 clash against Northampton Town. The auction, initially online, will continue and conclude on the night of the ball.

The ball will include a three-course meal and entertainment, a raffle and charity auction.

Ian Ormondroyd, chief executive of the Bradford City Community Foundation, said: “It’s exciting. It is the first time we have done it.

“We’re hoping it can become an annual event to raise some funds for the hub and the cafe.”

Tables are being sold for the Bantams Ball and tickets are still available, priced £38 per person.
