POLICE in Bradford have said that they are aware of a number of incidents where dogs have been “out of control” in Thackley.

Dogs have said to have been worrying livestock on Ainsbury Avenue, they added, and are asking dog owners to be more mindful.

Police said: “Whilst we appreciate it is a beautiful part of our area and will naturally attract dog walkers, we politely request that you are also mindful that this is a place where people live and work, and where livestock are kept.

“There are numerous risks to livestock if subject to worrying by dogs - including miscarriage, serious illness and even death.

“Landowners have the right to shoot dogs that are on their land and worrying their animals - obviously providing they are in legal possession of the appropriate firearm.

“Worrying of livestock is also a criminal offence and large fines can be issued to dog owners if prosecuted.

“It is also a criminal offence to generally allow a dog to be dangerously out of control. Please remember that if you are walking dogs, you are fully responsible for them – whether you are their owner or simply walking them on behalf of someone else.”

Police added that there have been other issues in the area of late.

“We have reports of littering, fly-tipping, nuisance bikes and drug dealing along the road,” they said.

“We will be working alongside Bradford Council and our other partner agencies to monitor the area and address these issues.
