Families enjoy Bradford's Festive Launch at The Broadway

Families were wowed by performances from the likes of Liberty X and Ellie Sax in the shopping centre before the button was pressed to light up the city.

This was followed by an amazing 12-minute session of fireworks with some rockets reaching up to 850 feet.

The professionally-organised and delivered show was accompanied by music and was visible across the city from within the Ring Road.

Anne Brennan attended both events with her three-year-old grandson Tommy.

She said: "Having not been in a number of years, I thought it would be good to bring my grandson.

"I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great to see a huge smile on his face.

"The fireworks were really impressive and I could not get over how many people were there."

Organised by the Bradford Business Improvement District (BID), the action took place between 12 and 7pm on Saturday.

Frozen's Anna & Elsa performed and hosted meet and greets throughout the day for the younger children.

Ellie Sax and DJ Harry also entertained on the main stage as crowds eagerly awaited the appearance of the girls from popular noughties pop band Liberty X.

Keighley family Emma Metcalfe and Matthew Thorpe were there with daughters Annabel and Leah.

They said: "The girls loved Anna & Elsa earlier in the day.

"The meet and greet was excellent for the kids and Liberty X brought a big crowd.

"We would have preferred it outside as we thought it was a bit too hectic in The Broadway towards the end.

"But overall the principles of the idea from the Council have been really good."

Ian Ward, General Manager of The Broadway, said: "It has been an incredible day.

"The people in the Bradford district have come out again. Today was about the community and driving people back onto the high street.

"Ellie Sax is always good at getting the crowd going.

"Liberty X had played locally in the last few months and we saw the sort of audience they attracted so that's why we got them in.

He added: "Today is not about ringing tills it is about getting people out and starting to celebrate the festive season.

"We can worry about the tills in the next few weeks when hopefully these people will come back and shop."
