Children cheer as King's helicopter lands at Bradford school

The King's helicopter landed on the field at Bradford Grammar School where he was greeted by enthusiastic schoolchildren.

Dr Simon Hinchliffe, headmaster at Bradford Grammar School, said: “We were delighted His Majesty The King chose to land the Royal helicopter on our school field ahead of his visit to Bradford, as other members of his family have done before him.

“He very generously spent time meeting and greeting our excited young students. Today will be a day they will never forget.”

"It was a special day for our young people.”

A spokesperson for Bradford Grammar School also tweeted: "Staff and pupils were eager to see our new King and to welcome him to Bradford Grammar at the start of his visit."

After the King landed, he made his way to Morrisons' headquarters and City Hall where he was greeted by hundreds of people in Centenary Square.

Idle childminder Wendy Wilson was part of the large crowd to greet the King. 

"It was great and amazing when he came over to shake our hand," she said. "He said to the children 'do you have time off school?'

"They were really pleased to meet him. One of the children was chatting all about it after, but she commented 'he wasn't wearing his crown.'

"I feel quite emotional that he shook my hand.

"It was all over in a flash but it made it worthwhile waiting two hours to meet him."

In City Hall, he was greeted by the young leaders of Bradford.

And floral displays supporting the event were created by a Baildon florist.

Emma the Florist, a shop on Westgate, Baildon, created a number of floral installations at City Hall for the big day.

Florist Emma Taylor said: "Yesterday, we had the absolute honour of creating floral installations at City Hall for King Charles' visit to Bradford today.

"We worked totally foam-free and sourced all our flowers and foliage locally - most grown in Baildon and the styling was 'British hedgerow'.

"Working in City Hall after hours was just ace - like 'Night at the Museum' hehee.

"We hope the King likes it."
