A BRADFORD MP has condemned the shooting of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and called it an “attack on democracy”.
Imran Hussain, Labour MP for Bradford East, wished the cricketer-turned-politician a speedy recovery after he was shot in the leg yesterday.
Mr Khan, who was chancellor of the University of Bradford from 2005 to 2014, is now recovering in hospital.
One person was killed in the attack.
Mr Hussain said: “Yesterday’s attempt on Imran Khan’s life is incredibly concerning and this deplorable act of political violence should be condemned in the strongest possible terms, not just as an attack on the life of Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister, but as a blatant and dangerous attack on democracy in Pakistan.
“As an ex-international cricketer and previous chancellor of the University of Bradford, Imran Khan has close ties to Bradford and a strong, passionate following in the district.
“I know that I speak for everyone across Bradford in wishing him well and praying for a speedy recovery.
“I urge the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into this attack so that the people of Pakistan and the Pakistani diaspora in my constituency have confidence in knowing that justice is being done, and the political wishes of the people are fulfilled.”
