THE Broadway has signed up for the city centre gift card in a huge boost for shoppers ahead of Christmas.
The move means that 60 new stores will now accept the card.
Around 25 shops in the shopping centre – including Marks & Spencer – were already accepting the card but the rest have now decided to switch from The Broadway’s own gift voucher scheme to the version launched last year by Bradford Business Improvement District (BID).

It brings the total number of shops, leisure and hospitality providers signed up to 165.
Nikki Chadburn, business engagement officer at the BID – the limited company funded by more than 600 levy-paying businesses and organisations to help promote and develop the city centre – said: “This is brilliant for Bradford, brilliant for shoppers and customers and brilliant for businesses throughout the city centre.
“The Bradford City Centre Gift Card is designed to support local businesses by making it easy for people to give a pre-loaded card as a present to be spent in city centre retailers, places to eat and drink and leisure attractions such as cinemas and theatres.
“It also has the added bonus of being able to be used at Bradford City Football Club on both tickets and merchandise.”
She added: “Already £10,000 worth of gift cards have been bought since the launch and all that will be invested back into the local economy in Bradford rather than spent online at places like Amazon,”
Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway, added: “It makes total sense to have all retail, leisure and hospitality venues on one card so that people who receive it can choose to use their gift anywhere in the city centre.
“And what’s really good for all of us is that the money goes into the local economy and helps keep local shops and venues open and their employees in jobs.
“It is a true win-win for Bradford and one of the most important and significant things the BID has achieved since it launched four years ago.”
The card can be purchased from The Broadway, www.bradfordgiftcard.com or from the Visitor Centre or Bradford City. It works as a pre-paid Mastercard, with physical or digital versions available.
Physical gift cards are sent to the recipient by post with an optional gift message. Digital gift cards are sent to the recipient as a text or email; the recipient can then add the balance of their gift card to their digital wallet and make their purchase using their phone, either online or in-store.
