A BRADFORD MP has been named as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.
Naz Shah, Labour MP for Bradford West, has been included in the 500 Most Influential Muslims – also known as the Muslim 500 – an annual publication which was first released in 2009.
Ms Shah becomes the latest British politician in the 2023 edition, joining Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Dewsbury-born Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.
The Muslim 500 is compiled by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in Jordan. Over the years it has featured political leaders and academics, as well as the likes of footballer Mo Salah and Bradford’s Zayn Malik.
“It is a huge honour to be recognised alongside so many influential Muslims,” said Ms Shah.
“As a daughter of Bradford and as someone that champions Bradford, I hope all my constituents can share in this success.
“For me, it’s always about putting Bradford on the map, to pave the way for a greater future for the city.
“Growing up with the struggles that I and my family have faced to being recognised internationally is a testimony to the opportunities people can achieve in Britain.
“I am a loud, proud Muslim and hope I can continue my role in promoting the very best of British Muslims.”
