AN ENFORCEMENT team from Bradford Council has been sifting through mounds of fly-tipped rubbish in the hunt for evidence to prosecute the offenders.
The Council said last week's fly-tipping incident at the now-disused Richard Dunn Sports Cantre site was unacceptable, adding that it is planning to remove the waste as quickly as it can.
A huge amount of waste was left outside the sports centre, which closed in 2019 but later received listed building status, including doors, windows, bathtubs, garden waste and children’s toys.
One local resident called it a disgrace, while Wibsey ward councillors Ralph Berry and Sabiya Khan both pledged to resolve the issue and secure the site.
Now, the Council has issued a statement.
A spokesperson said: “Fly-tipping blights communities and is simply unacceptable, so we do everything we can to crack down on it.
“Our environmental enforcement team is actively investigating this incident and we are currently gathering and reviewing evidence to see if we can identify and prosecute the offenders.
“The fly tipped waste will be removed as soon as possible.
“Last year we investigated over 2,000 fly tipping incidents, issued over 50 fixed penalty notices for the offence and seized five vehicles involved in environmental crime.
“If anyone has information about this incident or any others, please report it at www.bradford.gov.uk/flytipping, or call 01274 432111.”
