LOCAL businesspeople have reacted following a brawl that broke out in the early hours of this morning, on Sackville Street, Bradford.

One man said: “I came in at around at half nine and the cordon was just going up.

“There was an ambulance and half a dozen policemen at the scene.”

Initial enquiries suggested that the suspects had left the scene in a vehicle, which was subsequently stopped a short time later in Keighley

The occupants of the vehicle two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old were arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody at this time.

A number of weapons were recovered from the vehicle, including a machete.

One businessman who works close by said: “It’s Bradford City Centre, this is what happens now.

“There’s always a cordon up somewhere.”

The cordon was lifted at around 12pm and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

One woman said: “I was shocked when I came into work and saw it, my colleague got in before me and saw the police.”

A man who was trying to get into the city centre this morning was unable to access it from any direction.

“It was all blocked off, I couldn’t get to the centre, the cordon was huge and blocked off all the roads leading up.

“There wasn’t a car that could be seen down there.”

Police are carrying out extensive inquiries into this incident and are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed any part of it.

There is also an interest in video footage of the fight which is being circulated on social media.

In a statement, Detective Chief Inspector, Alan Weekes said: “Thankfully, the injuries sustained are not considered life threatening but we know all too well how dangerous the use of weapons can be and the devasting consequences it can have.

“The rapid response of our officers following this incident has led to multiple arrests and resulted in offensive weapons being taken off the streets.

“Clearly serious violence involving weapons is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated and we will continue to support proactive operations to target those carrying weapons.”
