Work on a new boardwalk along a popular riverside route at Cottingley has been completed by officers from Bradford Council’s Countryside and Rights of Way Service.
The route, which forms part of both the Bradford Millennium Way and the long-distance Airedale Way, runs from Hirst Wood at Shipley to Cottingley Bridge.
The section which passes close to the River Aire near to the Bradford and Bingley Sports Club had been badly eroded by the river.
Working with the sports club, who own the land, a new boardwalk made from recycled plastic has been installed to direct walkers safely away from the eroded section, without damaging the wetland area through which it passes.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “It’s great to see these improvements to this popular walking route completed and we’re grateful to the Bradford and Bingley Sports Club Committee for their co-operation.”
